The Foundation
The Midway Foundation for Integrative Medicine strives to promote education of integrative medicine concepts. We believe optimal health can only be achieved through understanding the role played by nutrition, lifestyle, physical activity, spirituality, and nutritional support. Our most immediate goal is statewide screening of all Kentuckians for vitamin D deficiency, at first focusing on pregnant women, children, and senior citizens. We believe that vitamin D deficiency is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Kentuckians annually through heart attacks, cancer, autoimmune disease, and many other disorders. Vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy can result in a life‐long impact on brain function, and can be responsible for multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes.
Our board members are working with the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Board to validate and introduce state‐of‐the‐art assessment and integrative cancer interventions at the Markey Cancer Center.
Next year, we intend to bring to central Kentucky some of the best healthcare providers nationally to speak on integrative health solutions in cancer, heart disease, and other disorders. Part of our long‐term dream is a center that can offer comprehensive integrative health support through health care, spirituality, physical activity, organic food offerings, and educational support. Our board members are Jim Roach, M.D., Kim Clawson, M.D., Lisa Carson, (soon to be N.D.), William Elder PhD, Stephen Gates, Perry Bentley, and Patricia Boone.
